QualTras obtains information from process data and is capable of deriving and showing the qualitative process perception that expert operators could have (e.g. “the pressure dropped abruptly”). That feature makes QualTras a useful tool for supervisory tasks, such as monitoring, detection and fault diagnosis. Trends of numeric variables (e.g. measured process variables) are symbolically represented by means of qualitative descriptions of signals composed by episodes. Episodes are qualitative representations that characterise a constant behaviour of a variable over a specific time interval.
